Lazulite with
Scorzalite & Quartz
This Lazulite with Scorzalite &
Quartz is 3.66" (93.20mm) in size. This Rare Sphere is made of beautiful:
Lazulite is an aesthetic blue mineral that forms in distinct crystals. Its name
is very similar and often confused with Lazurite, which is an entirely
different mineral species. However, the names of both these minerals are
derived from the term "Lazaward", which means heaven in Arabic, alluding to
their blue color - Scorzalite is an uncommon deep-blue mineral that forms a
series with Lazurite. Lazurite is the magnesium-rich end member of the series,
and Scorzalite is the iron-rich end-member. Scorzalite was first identified in
1947, and is named after the Brazilian mineralogist Evaristo Penna Scorza
(1899-1969).

*Vugs are small cavities inside rock that
are formed when crystals form inside a rock matrix and are later removed
through erosive processes, leaving behind voids. A common cause of vugs is
minerals precipitating from solution in water, and then later being dissolved
again by less saturated water. The inner surfaces of vugs are often coated with
some of the mineral matter that formed them. Fine crystals are often found in
vugs where the open space allows the free development of external crystal form.
Geodes are a common vug formed rock. |
